The Gwangju Art Street

More Infomation
Just as France has Montparnass, Korea has the Gwangju Art Street.
This street is one of the best art streets in Korea along with Insa-dong Street in Seoul. This street is reached by walking 5 minutes from the Asian Culture Complex. It stretches 300 km from the Gwangju Dongbu police station to Jungang-ro and truly displays the beauty of Gwangju as the hometown of Korean art. In 1987, the street was officially named as the Gwangju Art Street and is one of the most famous places to visit among foreigners and those from other regions of the country.
Visitors can enjoy all year round exhibitions and performances thanks to the galleries, studios, small theaters and traditional tea houses along the street. Those who want to make amusing memories in Korea to take back home should visit the souvenir shops that sell traditional Korean artifacts and a wide variety of cultural items.
The street goes car-free on Saturdays and is crowded with the many people who visit the only tradition flea market in the country. Many products ranging from expensive ancient art pieces and old daily products to daily folk crafts wait for new owners in the market. The Namdo Culture & Art Promotion Council holds concerts, underground band performances, character and culture products exhibitions and light festivals once a month. The Gwangju Art Street will continuously represent Gwangju as a city of art along with the Asian Culture Complex.
