With the opening of the Kim Daejung Convention Center in 2005, people began to pay great attention to the exhibition and convention industry, which is considered the core of 21st century business. The design of the building symbolizes the land of Jeollanam-do and the ridge lines of Mudeung Mt. It is highly qualified to be a landmark of Gwangju.

The Kim Daejung Center or, the "DJ Center", benefits from a high brand value thanks to its name which is that of former president and Nobel peace prize laureate Kim Daejung. In addition to this, it is easily accessible, located in the middle of the new town, giving the center the great potential of becoming the mecca of the exhibition and convention industry in Korea.

Its exhibition hall can hold up to 500 basic booths with a size of 3x3m and accommodate a maximum of 20,000 visitors at a time.

Large international conferences can be held in the Convention Hall, which has 1,200 seats. On top of all this, it is the uniquely best exhibition and convention center in Jeollanam-do and has a simultaneous interpretation system for 8 languages, facilities for international conference calls and an audiovisual system.

In 2006, the Gwangju summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was held in the center. The summit was broadcasted by Arirang TV all over the world and served as an important opportunity to enhance the city's global recognition. The center also hosts a variety of exhibitions such as the 2007 World Women's Peace Forum Gwangju, the Gwangju Design Biennale and the International Photonics Exhibition, which are relevant to strategic local industries and thereby expand markets at home and abroad while invigorating the local economy.
