Advanced Environment in harmony with Nature
All the policies of Gwangju ensure the creation a 'reen City' including the creation of a green road through the center of the city, the restoration of Mt. Mudeung and Gwangju Stream, and the creation of a city environment for bicycle riding.
By fostering a beautiful, clean city environment, efforts to create an international environmentally-friendly city have continued. At a time when global warming has been aggravated due to environmental degradation, an advanced environment in harmony with nature will be the most competitive factor in city development.
- Enhancing the capacity of environmentally-friendly city policies
- Managing safe and clean air environment
- Managing fresh and clean water environment
- Greening Gwangju with forests
- Creating a noble and beautiful city environment
Creating a green forest corridor through the center of the city

In order to keep nature intact, Gwangju has been expanding its green zones by planting about 1,000 trees, repurposing a 7.9km disused railway and building an eco-town.
Creating a noble and attractive city

Gwangju will make a city landscape befitting to a culture capital, implement public business and design a city with artistic architecture.
Creating a low carbon green city
Responding to the 21st century climate change, Gwangju has tried to move toward becoming an international environmental city with zero CO2 emissions. In 2005, starting from the UN Convention on City Environment, Gwangju forged a Convention of the Creation of Climate Change Pilot Cities under the Ministry of the Environment (2008. 4) and established a low carbon infrastructure including the enactment of ordinances to address climate change.
