Exhibition and convention industry is dubbed as a flower of the 21st century business and the tourism industry.
Kimdaejung Convention Center is the first exhibition and convention center in the Honam area, the southwestern part of Korea, and is expected to serve as a core facility not only to boost the local economy but also to promote parallel development of related industries such as culture and tourism industries in Gwangju which seeks to become a cultural capital of East Asia.
The Exhibition and Convention Center, which is the so-called "international marketplace," is utilized as a venue for exchanges among people, as well as information and technology through exhibitions and conventions on a large scale. Exhibition and convention industry is closely linked to transportation, accommodation, leisure and entertainment, food and beverages, tourism and leisure industries, thus it is being established as a new industry which has an overall synergistic effect in the whole industry. The Kimdaejung convention Center covers 3,000 pyeong in scale and 500 booths 3m wide by 3m deep can be installed. Maximum ground weight is 5 tons/㎡ and ceiling height is 15-28 meters and its floor area features a flexible and multi-purpose layout, thus it can be separated by movable partitions to three separate spaces, enabling not only specialized exhibitions but also large conferences, and concerts and virtually any other events. Its 500-pyeong Convention Hall has a flat layout and a stage and can be divided into three spaces that can accommodate 2,000 persons at a time. Also, it has ten small and medium-sized conference rooms and state-of-the-art equipment for simultaneous interpretation and international video conferencing. In addition, the Convention Center houses convenience facilities including banks, a post office, catering service, cafes, restaurants, food courts, and convenience stores, as well as indoor and outdoor carparks where up to 2,000 cars can be parked.
