Administrative Districts
After seven rounds of expansion and reorganization, the administrative district of Gwangju today spans over 501.34§´, of which 144.81§´ is developable. Development has been completed on 100.92§´, an area of 43.89§´ remains undeveloped; development is discouraged from 52.21§´, and an area of 304.32§´ that includes a greenbelt is off-limits to development, which is a stumbling block toward drawing plans for urban development. While 22.99§´ is not included in the urban development zone, that area is part of the administrative zone of Gwangju City. On March 1, 1995 a part of Seo-gu was separated into Namgu. As of April 2005, the city consists of five gu or districts (Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Gwangsan-gu) and 90 dong or sub-districts.
