Gwangju has long held the reputation as the city of art where Korea's traditional arts have flourished.
We also take pride in our historical background as the city of democracy and human rights where our citizens fought to protect out nation against crises. The May 18 Democratic Movement is one such example.

The pride we take in our past serves as the basis for our ambitious campaign to establish Gwangju as the number one city in the nation.
Our city is in the process of growing into a mecca of hi-tech industry with a focus on the automotive, electronics and photonics industries. Future-oriented industries such as design, materials/components, energy and cultural content are also on our agenda, for which we strive to build a strong foundation.

The completion of the National Asian Cultural Complex in Gwangju and various cultural programs will serve as a driving force behind the establishment of Gwangju as a city of culture that will represent not only Korea but also the entire Asian region.
