The "Gwangju Welfare 21" project - creating a city of compassion
To establish a community of togetherness and sharing
: Through the establishment of a five-year "Gwangju welfare 21" project, aimed at strengthening social services for citizens, Gwangju will endeavor to establish a better safety net for marginalized groups such as the elderly and poor.
- To establish a "Bitgoeul Silver Town" (2004-
2009, KRW 81.2 billion), and "Welfare Community for the Elderly"
(2006-2009, KRW 20 billion).
- To hold shows that encourage employment for the elderly, and to expand the network of job placement centers from 10 to 12.
- To expand facilities promoting self-sufficiency and readjustment among low-income persons and the disabled from 33 to 55 centers.
To expand social participation of women and to expand the child care system
: To achieve a society without gender discrimination to expand the participation of women in government committees with the overriding aim of boosting women's participation (34%¡æ40%).
: To support a stable social life among women by increasing diverse child care facilities (809¡æ913) (2005-2009, KRW 7.2 billion)
To establish a state-of-the-art health and welfare system to extend people's healthy lifespan
: To transform the Hall for the Elderly into a Health care Center for the Elderly in order to deliver enhanced health and medical services (25 centers).
: To provide advanced medical services through the establishment and operation of health wellness centers with modern medical equipment.
